Jellie park (from friday)

On friday last week, the year 7 and 8 went to Jellie park, It was really fun.                In the morning it was quite cold but it was alright, the first thing we did when we got there was go on the hydro slide, it was racing one, it went so fast and it was so fun, I raiced Violet first. Then I went in the pool with Zoey, Violet and Kiwa, we swam for a bit, I dont really remeber what we did after that besides where these older boys tried to push me and Kiwa of a flowty, it was annoying.

I also remember jumping of a diving board, there was a really tall one and a shorter one, first I went on the short one and I did a front flip after I went on the tall one, and I screamed, It was so fun.

After lunch me, Zoey and Kiwa went on the hydro slide all toghether and it was so much fun!      I hit my head on it though, that was pretty funny, but then when we went on it again I hit my head AGAIN!

Overall it was a pretty fun day and I really enjoyed it!

Lately in maths we have been learning about geometry, today I finished my 3D shapes poster and I think it looks good and I also did another poster of a erows reflection rotation.

today we did 100 questions,                    in multiplication I got 94/100 and in 9mins 30sec witch isisn't better than last week.

and in division I got 86/100 and in 10mins, that also isi'nt better than last time.

My goal for next time is to get all of them correct in multiplication and in division to get 90 correct.

The new playground is so fun, espicially the swings they are my favorite, thay go so high and so scary but fun I wish there were more swings because everyone is always hogging them.

I also like the slide the bigger one, I went on it backwards and I fell on my bum and got bark all over my back and my bum, it was really funny.

Surfing on Wednesday

Yesterday I went surfing and it was really fun,  and some of the waves were really strong, one of the waves were so strong that the board fell on the back of my hand really hard and now my hand is a bit bruised and saw.

I cought a bunch of waves, and I stood up about 3 or 4 times but i only stood up for afew seconds, then after we got dressed we got an iced choclate from the little coffee van next to the beach it was soooo yum and I will deffinitly get it again!

100 questions

 Today we did 100 questions in maths             

we did mutiplication and division forst we did division and I did all of my 100 questions in 8:04 and I got 99/100 correct wich is better than last week. 

And on my division I got 94/100 and in 9:45 wich is also better than last time.

My goal for next week

for multiplication - to get all of them right in 8 mins.

In between the book pages and put the flowers in and close the book for about ten mins then when there all flat I might put them in a frame.

I am going to make vanilla and chocolate swirl cupcakes and I will decorate them to look like pig, sheep and baby chick.

100 questions (maths)

Today in maths we did 100 questions            on my multiplication one I got 97/100 questions correct and in 8mins and 39sec.                The questions that I got wrong...            

- 7x8 I answered 64 instead of 56 

- 6x7 I answered 56 instead and 42 

- 8x6 I accidentaly answered 56 instead 48

On my division I didnt answere 24 and I got 4 wrong.

  

Advice I would give to the year 7 studdent of 2021

Advice I would give to the year 7             

students of 2021.

1. Make friends that will be there for you no

matter who you are or what you do, they will

always be by your side and help you when you need

them, make sure they care about you, because you

will need some people to help you get through the

year.

2. Be kind to yourself, don't put too much

pressure on yourself just try your best that's

what counts.

3. Don't let people put you down, don't let

people push you around and get away with it, that isn't

fair on you, you need to tell someone, you cant

let people tell you who you are or can be, just

be yourself.

4. Be kind, be kind to everyone especially your

teachers, they try there best to help you become

the person that you are, treat other people the

way YOU want to be treated.

5. Try and be helpful, you can help out the class

by cleaning up your messes and maybe even other

messes (this is a very important step).

6. Make sure you make the two next years amazing

before you leave for highschool, make sure you

participate and make sure you're included in

things and most of all have fun!

Athletics

 Athletics

Yesterday the year 4-8s did athletics for the whole day, some people couldnt do it because they were injured or they were helping out.

I didn't do athletics because I was helping Sharon out with long jump, I did it with Zoey, Violet, Eden and Kiwa.

We swapped jobs from time to time. First I started with measuring out how far people were jumping, then Melissa took over that part cause she was better at it than me.

Then while she was doing that I had to put the edge of the measuring tape from where they jumped on the mat, I liked that job it was probably the best job in my opinion.

Now that i think about it I kinda wish I had done athletics, but i'll make sure I do it next year. The other jobs that I did was helping Sharon ask their names, rake the sand that they were jumping on, telling them to walk the other way and I also let the kids know when it's their turn and if they have any questions.  It got a bit boring after a while but that's alright, I liked telling them how to do it and when to go,

I also did a few long jumps myself and I didnt measure how far I went but I’m guessing it was about 2metres and a bit.

When the year 7 and 8 boys did it they went quite far the longest jump of the day was 4.20 and it was a boy and for the girls longest jump it was 4.05 which is pretty impressive if you ask me.

The chicken named Fish

      The chicken named Fish

Once upon a time there was a chicken named Fish, (not to be confused with the animal) Fish was a very kind chicken he had heaps of chicken friends.  One day when he was having his lunch but then he saw a dog, the dog started chasing him so Fish ran as fast as his little chicken legs could go, he was horrified.  Finally Fish escaped when he did Fish realised how far away from home he was, he started panicking so he started to look for some place to sleep for the night, but then he saw a pond with some friendly looking ducks swimming around.  So Fish decided to join them and try and swim like a fish, he jumped in the water and flapped his wings he didn't know how to swim!

The ducks saw that he was struggling so they quickly swam over, Fish was so scared he didn't know what to do.  When the duck reached him they put him on their backs and swam to shore, he was so relieved that he was safe.  

He thanked the ducks as they swam away, as Fish  was walking away he saw the dog so he started running (again) as fast as his little chicken legs could go.  After about 50 seconds of running fast he saw a farm not any farm it was his home!

He turned around and saw the dog and remembered what was happening he ran into the chicken pen, he was so happy to be home and to see all his friends.  Luckily he got home just in time for feeding time, he had such a long day full of adventures, he swam in a pond (kind of), he was chased by a dog... twice and he had finally made it back home safely.

Today in maths we did isometric drawing, we drew stairs, cubes and squares.  It was very hard at first but then it was really easy and it was fun!

Today in math we were doing geometry, I was playing a game were you had to make different thing with 7 different shapes you can make houses, boats etc.

sailling [from yesterday]

Sailing...

Yesterday the year 7s went sailing at Lake Rua,

they explained to us how to sail then they separated us to assemble our boats.

After morning tea we went out in the lake and practised turning our boats/sails so we got used to it, then we had lunch.  

After lunch we just sailed more and it was really fun, I had about 3 or 4 goes, then we packed up the boats and went swimming, it was a great way to finnish of the day.

It was really fun and I would probobly go again. 

Rubbish clean up!

         RUBBISH CLEAN UP

Yesterday a small group of people from class went and walked around Sea eagles Leaver Terrace and picked up rubbish.

We were in buddies of two and three, I was with Zoey and Violet.

We had gloves like the ones from the dentist and we had big rubbish bags too, we found heaps of rubbish.  

We went into this big bush and found lots of cans, chip bags, lolly packets and we even found a pool noodle.  

We were walking for about an hour, 

it was really fun to get out of the classroom and wonder around with friends though.

Mufti Day [Tuesday]

Today is mufti day and it's been great, I think its very fair because while the skiiers are off to the mountains having a great day we are also having a good day.

We've barely done any work, we have done two Kahoots and a few Quizlets.  they were really fun.  We also get let out of break really early. I made a daisy chain and I wore it as a necklace.

for my william pike challenge lately I've been doing yoga with Zoey, Violet, Kiwa and Eden.

Im really enjoying it so far, we have made up some cool tricks but we mostly just got them of the internet.  

Some posses we have been doing is the airoplane, bunk beads and  we have a cool lift that we made up.

   In literacy we have been learning about the                  dawn raids in the 1970's...

In the early 70s the New Zealand police started kicking out the overstayers in NZ, because at the time the government was convinced that there weren't enough jobs for the New Zealanders, due to the down turn in the NZ economy. So, they decided to target the immigrants to leave NZ.

The reason why the government did this because 

they believed that the overstayers were taking all the jobs, so the government thought that was what they had to do to save NZ from running out of jobs.

TECH

Yesterday at tech I went to wood works first and we got to cut out our key rings, I did a Z. It was a little scary to cut out with the scroll saw but it was surprsingly easy.


Then I got to see the results for my tie diy bag in sewing,
it didnt look the best but it was ok, it had lots of colors but the colors were very pale, some people had there fabric very bright and colorful.

Planting at the Rāwhiti Domain

On Friday a small group from class went planting at the domain, we walked there, it took a while.  When we got there a lady showed us what and were to plant.

I planted about 4 plants and I really enjoyed it, it only took us about an hour to do it because we did it so quickly.  It was fun and I hope I can do it again.

Maths Wednesday

Today in maths we did 10 questions as we do everyday, then we did a worksheet were we had to find the perimeter and the area of a sandpit, I found it easy.  Then we did a worksheet were we had to find the area of a triangle and a few diffrent shapes and I didn't get to finish it cause it was a bit hard and confusing.

Adrenalin forest

Yesterday I went to Adrenalin forest it was really fun and I really enjoyed it,
I've already been twice before, it felt like we were there for half an hour but we were there for like 3 hours.   One of my favorite parts was the wrecking ball that wasvery fun, but I wish I went onto a higher and harder course I only went on course 1, 2 and 3b and I've already done those three courses.
Next time I go I will go a lot higher!

100 questions

For 100 questions I got 99 questions right, in 9.59 minutes.

The question that I got wrong was 8 x 4 witch is 32 but I put 34 (because I was rushing).

My goal for next time is to do it 20 seconds before 10 mins with all the questions right.

Lately in Maths we have been learning about area and perimiter, we have been doing fun diffrent activitys to learn it. 

 

Teacher appreciation lunch

 Me and a few friends are  doing a teacher appreciation lunch forthe staff and teachers.  We are doing a three course meal were doing apertizers, main meal  and dessert (we are also making drinks).   We have been planing for a long time now and I'm really excited to cook it and every meal has a diffrent theme. Eg: Italian or Mexican.

My journel DAY-1

For literacy we are  making a logo/advertisement for an ad that we are doing, we are doing shoes that you get in a kit and in the kit you get a white pair of shoes that comes with fabric paint and you get to decorate your own pair of shoes.  Its really fun and you'll really like it if you are artsy and creative, we haven't figured out a name yet though.

maths timestables test

Today in 100 questions in 10 mins I got 78/100 witch isn't as good as I
did in my one last week, this time I got 2 wrong witch is ok, I got 8x7 wrong twice.
I should probobly start practicing my 7 and 8 timestables.

I think doing the tests helps me improve and have a goal every week, and it helps me
remember my timestables.

My goal for next week is to get around 90 wright next time, and to know my 7 and 8 timestables.

Botanical gardens

Yesterday I went to the Christchurch Botanical Gardens and I really enjoyed it,

we learnt about different animals and plants/trees.

First we did some learning about animals, there's the native animals the endemic, the extinct,
the threatened and the and the doing well animals ( thats not the real name for it cause I forgot ).
We played some games and had to play gues who but with animals pegged to your back.

Then we learned about fantails and we learned that they travelled all the way to port hills,
and we played a game were we had to travel to the Port Hills but we stopped on green spaces and Sharon took away the green spaces ( You probably won't really understand very well if you didn't go to the botanic gardens ).

Math goals

On my  math test I got 92 in 10 min witch is a huge improvement,

I got 8 wrong, I got 3x6 wrong 5 times and I got 6x4 wrong 3 times..

So I need to know that 3x6 = 18

and 4x6 = 24

MATH's

Today at MATH's we went outside and had to estimate a metre with a bike.
We drew a line under a bike tire, then we had to ride how much we thought was a metre, my measurement was 120cm it was kinda close.

William Pike Goals

I want to do lots of fun things like go skiing,  Adrenaline Forest, learn how to communicate in Spanish, and heaps of really fun things as I go through the project.  I want to try lots of new things.  I really want to do a bunch of things for our community to. I can't wait to see what happens next and so far I'm having a lot of fun with this project!!

Me and a friend dropped a 30cm ruler and we had catch it ( sorry if it doesn't make sense ).

                                  The last day of tech for the term...

Today [2/ 7/ 2020]  I did sewing then digital, For sewing we choose the colours that we were going to use for the backs of our pillow, I choose a navy black for my back colour.  Then we measured the fabric to see how much we needed, then we ironed the edges and sewed the top part of the fabric (sorry if that doesn't make sense).

                 I enjoyed tech and I'm really excited to go back next term!

Some facts I know about Eels.

                                      Some facts I know about Eels...

On Monday a lady named Bridget came to talk to us about eels, she told us some really weird but interesting facts about eels, I didn't know that there was so much to know about this species.
Bridget talked about the life cycle of an eel and about a big adventure that they go through, she also said that there disappearing and dying, from pollution, loss of habitat and much more.

This is a image of the life cycle of a eel.

It starts out as an egg that is laid in Tonga then it hatches and turns into larva and travels along the current all the way to New Zealand were they become glass eels.  A glass eel is see through, which helps to hide from prey and camouflage.  Then they become an elver eel, after being an elver they are finally an adult, they eat, and eat, and eat until they get really fat and have lots of energy.  Next their stomachs shrink and disappear.  Now it is time to start there journey to Tonga...

They travel all the way to Tonga which is really dangerous, because they could get eaten by sharks and they could run out of energy, it takes about a year to get to Tonga.  When they arrive to Tonga the females lay there eggs.  Then they will probably die because they will completely run out of energy, they have not eaten in a year so they have starved themselves.

That is a little bit of what I know about eels.

Learning Spanish!

                                         Learning Spanish...

 My passion project. I am learning Spanish, I'm really enjoying it and I find it kinda easy (so far)!  I've learnt how to introduce myself and how to have a conversation with someone.  I'm learning it on Duo Lingo, which I find very helpful.

Maramataka

Nights in the Maramataka the Māori lunar month. The Māori lunar calendar is called the Maramataka, which literally means the turning of the moon. It marks the phases of the moon in a lunar month. 

What I've been learning about in maths!

Yesterday in Sharon's maths group we did a really fun learning method that I enjoyed.

We have been learning about probability and chance, yesterday we used 2 dice to learn.  We had to find out what number would we get the most when we roll the dice.  Me and my group figured the answer would be 7 because there are more ways of adding up numbers that make 7 on the dice.

Last week we did a different activity that involved basketballs.  It was really fun, we had 10 shots to get the ball in the hoop, we had to see how many times we could get it in the hoop out of 10.  I got 3, the highest score in the group was 8 out of 10.  Then we answer some questions that I can't remember.

Today at TECH!

                                           TODAY AT TECH!!

Today at tech we  started making our pillows, first we had to pin the fabric together so it would stay put.  Then we had to get a small peace of fabric to test sewing on, once we done that we sewed our big fabric together leaving a small hole that we can use to put the stuffing inside.

I really enjoy sewing at tech, but it can be a bit difficult sometimes though, once you get the hang of it, it can be easy.  I'm excited to see what my pillow is going to be like when its finished.  

community challenge

                                 COMMUNITY CHALLENGE

Me and two of my friends are doing our community challenge together, we each did some baking.
I made blueberry choc chip muffins, Kiwa made brownies and Eden made gluten free M&M cookies.

We took our baking to school the next day, we packaged them up in brown paper bags, and put small notes on them to say whats inside.  After we packaged them up we took them down to the community fridge here in Brighton, there was already some people there waiting to pick up some food, they looked happy to see that brought some food there.

It felt really good that people really appreciated what we did, I will most definitely do it again.

What happens when you multiply a number by 0, 1 or 10.

• When you multiply any number by 0 it will make 0, no matter what number it is.

0 x 456 = 0

• when you multiply a number by 1 it stays the same number that you multiplied it by.             1 x 87 = 87

• When you multiply a number by 10 you just have to add a  0 at the back of the number.     76 x 10 =760   

Teach term 2

                                                            Tech term 2...

Today at tech, we all had to change classes.  My group did sewing first then we did digital,
for sewing we didn't do much, our teacher Miss J showed us how to use a sewing machine.
She showed us were to put the string and how to turn it on and stuff like that.

After morning tea we went to digital, at digital our teacher wasn't there she, but she is coming next week ( because our original teacher wasn't there we had a different teacher) first she told us to make a 2D circle look like its 3D, which was hard.  Then we went on the computers and went  on this app were we made 3D objects on the computer it was really fun.  I'm really happy with what I got for tech, I wonder what we're going to do at digital next week.

Today at TECH!

                                                             What I made at TECH!

Today at tech I made a "Twirly wirly" key ring, at my first class that was plastics.  To make it, first we drilled a hole in it then we shaped it to be smooth on the sides and the corners, then I polished it.  Then to make all twirly I put it in the oven for 10 minutes so it would soften up, after I took it out of the oven I got it with some clipper thing and twirled it up.  I loved the way it looked it was so cool, and very fun to make, I even made 2 more of them.  

For my next class we made cookies at cooking.  The ingredients were... 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 a cup of flour, 2 tbsp of sugar, 1/2 tsp of baking powder and I think it was 2 tbsp of condensed milk.  I added all the ingredients together and after it was all mixed It looked a lot more like cookie crumbs than cookie dough.  Anyway then I rolled the dough into small balls and put them in the oven. While it was in the oven I cleaned up the table and did the dishes.  When it was done they looked pretty good, I wasn't expecting them to look or taste as good as they actually did.

                                                      I really enjoyed tech today!!

William Pike Challenge

   My passion project...

   For my passion project I have a lot of ideas about what I can do, for example I could do a small presentation on the life cycle  of butterflies for the juniors. Or I could go to a adrenaline forest, or I could learn a new language.

I honestly have no idea witch one I want to do, I think I'm going to do the presentation for the juniors, the reason why I don't really want to do the adrenaline forest is because I've already gone to one.  And if I were to learn a new language I would learn Spanish!

My first time back at tech...

                                                     My first time back at tech...

I was very happy to be back at tech, I was so excited!  In my first class at tech my group did plastics, we finished of our "Tik Tak Toe" game that we were making before lock-down.  

Then in our 2nd class we did cooking, we had a new teacher.  She was very nice her name was Miss Vokes.  Miss Vokes taught us how to make french toast,  she gave us an egg, a banana, a bread roll, some milk, a small cube of butter and a little bit of bacon.  She also gave us a recipe, she told us that she trusted us to do it ourselves responsibly.  I liked that we could do it by ourselves without having to do it step by step with very strict instructions.  First I wisked together the egg and the milk, then  I heated my pan on medium heat.  Then I dipped small slices of bread into the egg and milk stuff,  then I put the bread onto the pan to cook it.  I also cooked some slices of banana, and the bacon to.

When everything was cooked I put on a plate and did the dishes.  After I cleaned up my mess I had my food that I made, I made french toast with fried banana and bacon on the side.  I didn't eat all of it because it was very filling, so I offerd it to the people in the group.


I really enjoyed tech this week, we got to finish of what we were doing last time, and next week we are  gonna make cookies in cooking... I think.
