Languages

Today in languages I had to pick a language and I chose Spanish, I chose it because I already now Portughese and Spanish is quite similar to Portughese.

Today I learnt...

Buenos dias - good morning

Buenas notches - good night

De nada - your welcome

por favor - please

Today in maths

Today in maths we were lerning about factors and how to find out if numbers are odd or even.

A number can be divided by 3 if you add the digits and the answer can be divided by 3.

Eg. 462  4+6+2= 12 divided by 3 = 4

      229  2+2+9= 13 divided by 3 = (doesn't work) X

Hand hygien

                    Writing_ZT

Washing your hands correctly with soap and water can help stop germs from spreading (like bacteria and viruses), which can cause some diseases.  It's good to wash your hands before and after you eat, after you use the bathroom,   before and after preparing your food, before and after caring for someone sick.

How to wash your hands correctly,

- Wet you hands with clean, running water

- Apply soap and lather your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds.

- Rub your hands across all surfaces of your hands, don’t forget the back of your hand and your wrist.

- Rinse your hands under running water and make sure all the soap has come off your hands.

- Dry your hands with a clean towel or air dry them.

Germs are most common to be found on…

  • Knobs/ handles/ switches

  • Bathroom

  • Pets

  • Phone screens

  • Money

  • Keys

  • Shopping trolleys

Shortest day of the year

The shortest day of the year

Today the 21st of June is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year, today there will only be 7 hours and 49 minutes.

On the June solstice, the nothern Hemisphere leans most towards the sun , giving us longer days and more intense sunlight.  Its the oppositeof the southern Hemisphere, where June marks the start of winter and the shortest day of the year.

literacy writing

Today in literacy we did some writting about a hail storm that we had a few days ago.

      Hail Storm Writing

The other day there was a hail storm, it was very strong, the rain was as heavy as a bowling ball.  Everyone was running outside to go in the hail, everyone was picking the hail up off the ground and making snowballs.  When I went to pick up the hail, it was as cold as ice, that's probably because it was actually ice though.  You could hear the hail falling onto the concrete floor, it sounded like marbles falling from a box, it was really loud.  The ground was cold and frosty, it was as white as paper.  It looked like an ice skating rink, that you could skate on and do cool tricks. Luckily the hail went away after a while, then we could go back outside again.

Walking 7km to Spencer park!

 Walking to Spencer park!

Yesterday we walked 7km to Spencer park. We left at 9:30, first we took a van to where we would start the walk. I forgot what it was called.  But we got to play at the park for a bit while we waited for everyone else to get there, we played on the flying fox. It was fun.

Then we started our walk, some people were running but I just don’t understand how you can run for so long without dying.

It was pretty calm for most of the way, we had to stop every k to do the roll, and everytime we stopped I had something to eat because we didn’t get to stop for morning tea.  While we were walking, me and my friends were singing songs, and being silly, it was fun.  When we were closer to Spencer park, my legs started to get really tired, it felt like they were gonna fall off.  It also started raining while we were walking, the rain wasn’t the worst though, it made the dirt into mud, it was as squishy as a marshmallow. It made my shoes all dirty. We arrived at Spencer park at around 12:00 I was so happy when we got there, I could smell the sausage sizzle, it smelt so good.

But I was upset when we only got one each, it was really yum though!  We got to play in the park and hangout for a few hours, I really enjoyed the walk, it was fun to hangout with friends, I was so tired when I went to bed I almost fell asleep straight away!

Maths

Today in Maths there weren't many people because lots of people went to winter sport.

So we all did maths together with Nogo and Sharon, first we did doubling and we started of with 2 and went all the way to 2048 we just doubled up 2 until it went up to 2048.

2 doubled is 4

4 x 2 = 8

8 x 2 = 16... all the way up to 2048

Then we did halving, we started off with 2000 and went down to .05 wich is half of 1.

2000 halved is 1000

1000 halved is 500

500 halved is 250... down to .05

Tech

Today at tech we were suppose to make stir fry chicken but instead we made teriyaki chicken with rice and Mayonnaise.

Because there was someone in my group that didn’t want stir fry so Mrs Lee let him choose what we made because he never likes what we make.

First we ut up the chicken into small bits, then we put in some sauce and sugar to make it actually teriyaki chicken. Then we grabbed the frying pans and cooked our little bits of chicken.

While I cooked the chicken my cooking partner Meg got the broccoli ready since we had to have some vegges, she cut it up and grabbed another pan, she put some water in it and cooked it so she could cook it.  While the rest of the class got there chicken and veggies ready Mrs Lee cooked the rice.

When everything was all cooked and ready we put the rise on the plate first then the chicken, then the mayo and lastly the broccoli. I DON’T like broccoli and it tasted so bad so I only put a Little bit on.  It was really yummy, it was good that I couldn’t taste the broccoli!

I wonder what were making next week.

Matariki

Today in literacy we were learning about Matariki, we did a sheet about it. Matariki is a traditional holiday for the Maori new year which will start in 2021, and it involves 7 stars they all have their own name.

Waipurangi, Urangi, Tupu-a-rangi, Tupu-a-nuku, Waita, Waiti and Matariki.

Generations of Maori have been raised on the seven sisters of Matariki myth, but one academic says many are getting it wrong.  Greek people believe the constellation Pleiades represents seven daughters of Atlas , however when those stars can be seen in our skies it marks the beginning Matariki.

Avonside open night

On Tuesday there was an Avonside open night were we could look around the school and ask questions about what different subbjects and different things we could do.

There was so many different rooms and halls, it was a massive school, there was so many people there, it was a bit overwhelming and I saw a few people that I knew.

When we first went there we went into the hall with everyone else and then they did the kapahaka performance and it was so good they sang really well!  Then they talked for a bit. When they finished talking and stuff we actually went to go have a look at the school, next year when we go to highschool in year 9 we get to do all of the different classes, and then in year 10 we get to choose 8 different subjects I think.

Some classes that I'm really excited for are cooking, clothes/dress designing, art, drama, dance, movie making and what I'm really excited for photography because my mum used to do photography, and it looks really fun, we also get to edit and make it look really cool and unique.  I'm really excited for highschool!
