Fascinating KOALA Facts

                                       Fascinating Facts About  KOALA'S!!

Koalas are Marsupials.  A Marsupial is a animal that is a mammal that has a pouch where the babies are fed.  Baby Marsupials are born earlier than a regular mammal would be.  After giving birth the mother keeps her baby/joey in the pouch for around six moths before it has fully developed.

Koalas are Herbivores they feed off Eucalyptus leaves, they also live in a Eucalyptus tree.  Koalas can eat over a pound of Eucalyptus leaves a day!  Eucalyptus is toxic, so the koalas digestive system works differently, and it works hard to break down the toxins.

Koalas are found in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia.  These states are the only Australian states that have Koalas naturally in the wild.  A Koala eats, sleeps and does almost everything in a Eucalyptus tree.

Kolas spend over half there day sleeping.  They sleep for about 22 hours a day.  They only spend 10% of their day eating.  So that Koalas do not fall out of trees, they have 2 thumbs and a rough palm, this helps them not to fall while they are eating or sleeping or anything.  Koalas are very good climbers!!

Koalas have started to go endangered in the early 1900.  They were being killed for their fur, and because of bush fires.  In 2017-2018 they started opening Koala hospitals, for Koalas that were injured.  Koalas can get hurt by dog attacks, car accidents and worst of all bush fires.  We need to do the best we can to save the Koalas from Extinction!

  1. Hi Zara,
Well done on completing your report. You have done a good job of organising your facts and writing in clear language. One thing you can do with this kind of writing is use subheadings for your paragraphs. It helps us remember to stick to one idea in each paragraph, e.g. a heading for you second paragraph might be Eating Habits because all the information in that paragraph is about food and eating. It also makes it easier for the reader to find the information they need. Koalas look so cute, don't they? You are right about doing all we can to save these and other animal endangered after the bush fires.
Kia kaha, stay safe and well.

  2. Hi Zara, I'm loving this. Chock full of details, and I learned quite a few things eg. 22 hours of sleep and 2 thumbs. I like how you've got related facts all in the same paragraph. Have you seen a koala in real life? In a way they're a bit like sloths in South America, what do you think?
